Create

For Create, I painted an Acrylic Wall Art for my bedroom inspired by wall art in our dining room. I am going to have a canvas as my surface and different colours of acrylic as my media. I am choosing acrylic as I want my painting to be bold and I find it easier to blend colours with this media.

As I hoped it took a couple of weeks to plan, research and create my final piece.

Log Book

For the first few days I researched online and went to a few retail shops who sold wall art to get some inspiration.

Finally, I decided to do a day and night with two contrasting backgrounds. I will use a silhouette of a tree to link the two sides together. For each background I will use a separate canvas.

Before I did the final painting, I did a smaller version in my art book. This is the smaller version.

I was happy how the background turned out but felt I needed to change the tree. So, I went online to learn how to do different types of trees and practiced them in my art book.

For my final painting I started the night background first. I used Prussian blue as my background colour and a sponge to apply it on the canvas. The sponge made it easy to cover the canvas and gave a nice effect to the background.

Then I marked the moon in the sky with white paint and used a thick flat paint brush to slowly blend the white and blue moving my brush in a circular motion to give the effect of fading moon light in the sky. Then I marked the fluffy clouds in the sky. I highlighted the edges of the clouds to show the moonlight on the clouds. Then I left it to dry.

I used the same steps and methods for the day background but used cadmium orange, cadmium yellow and white. For the Sun I used white and yellow and gradually reduced white and added yellow and orange when I did the rays of the Sun.

Once the backgrounds were dry, I painted the grass and bushes with Mars black. For the tree, I drew a few shapes of trees on an old newspaper and cut them out. Then placed them on the painting and chose the best one. I put the two backgrounds together and placed my paper stencil and drew around it with a pencil. Then I used Mars black and a paint brush to outline and colour it.

I am really happy and proud of my final piece. It looks brilliant. I learned a lot while I did my painting like blending colours, showing the effect of light and drawing different shapes of trees. I really enjoyed doing it.
