Part A

Identify & Plan An Arts Challenge

To help choose what I wanted to pursue for my arts challenge I create two mid maps to see my strengths and weaknesses and listed skills I have and skills I want to develop.

Skills I have

Skills I want to develop

Sketching

Drawing cartoon characters

Designing and printmaking

Texture

Using a camera

A Creative eye

Painting with oil paints and watercolor

Painting landscapes

Figure drawing

Getting the proportions right in drawing

Finish a project I have started

Portraits

Using photo editing software on the computer

From looking at these two mind maps and skillsets, I think that I would benefit the most from working on my landscapes and figure drawing, as this would help me to improve my skills range. To help myself decide on which Arts Challenge to pursue, I have written two Project Overviews for each challenge so I can compare. I have written them as I am going to pursue each of them so I can see the pros and cons I would get out of them completing them.

Landscape Challenge

Figure Drawing Challenge

The main concept of my Art Challenge:

To, by the end, produce a landscape of a place where I been, or a copy of a landscpae artist I like..

Description of my Art Challenge:

I will do two experimental pieces, following tutorials, and then do a test run of my final piece, and finally my final piece.

Why I have chosen this challenge:

Painting landscapes is something that I have always wanted to do, and I think it will really help to be able to do so in the future.

My Action plan:

  • First experimental piece, with acrylic paint.

  • Second experimental piece, with oil paint.

  • Test run of final piece, in either acrylic or watercolour, depending on what I prefer.

  • Final piece.

Recording my progress:

I will record my progress on this website, in Part B.

Stepping Stoned:

  • First experimental piece, with acrylic paint.

  • Second experimental piece, with oil paint.

  • Test run of final piece, in either acrylic or watercolour, depending on what I prefer.

  • Final piece.

Resources:

  • Usual painting materials

  • Oil and Acrylic paint

  • Canvases

  • Device to watch tutorials and reference photos

The main concept of my Art Challenge:

To, by the end, produce a portrait of someone I know.

Description of my Art Challenge:

I will do two practice drafts, in two different media, and then a final piece.

Why I have chosen this challenge:

I think that portraiture is a very important skill to have, especially as an art student. I think doing this would improve my confidence in portraiture.

My Action plan:

  • First practice draft, in pencil or coloured pencil

  • Second practice draft, in oil paint.

  • Final piece, in the medium I was most comfortable with.

Recording my progress:

I will record my progress on this website, in Part B.

Stepping Stoned:

  • First practice draft, in pencil or coloured pencil

  • Second practice draft, in oil paint.

  • Final piece, in the medium I was most comfortable with.

Resources:

  • Pencil set.

  • Usual painting materials.

  • Oil paints.

  • Camera to take reference photos.

After going through both overviews I want to pursue The Landscape Challenge as my Art Challenge. This is because I enjoy painting landscapes more, and I feel that I will have more freedom to experiment and choose with this challenge.

I will do this by doing lots of practice and maybe following some YouTube tutorials on how to improve my skills.
