River and Rowing Museum in Henly on Thames
During the half tern, I visited the picturesque town of Henly, to see the different types of Art there was on offer, and even meet some artists. Here’s what I found out.
John Piper Display
John Piper was a local artist, who lived in Fawley Bottom on the edge of Henly on Thames and was one of the most significant artists of the 20th century. He refused to be defined as a certain type of artist, or have a specific art style, as he constantly explored and experimented with different types of art. Nowadays, he is known as a Neo-romantic artist, but was also one of Britain's leading abstract and modernist painters. The gallery at the river and Rowing Museum celebrated his life and had some of his most famous works. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take any pictures, but I will add some pictures of his work on display at other locations.
The Wind in the Willows Models
Also at the River and Rowing Museum, there was an immersive gallery about the classic story by Kenneth Grahame. It consisted of models, painted in an illustrative style. This was mainly aimed at a younger audience but was still enjoyable for everyone. The models were extremely detailed, and you could really see the illustrative style come out. It was also really fun to follow the story as you walked through the gallery, and some of the models could even move, and I could see how exciting this would be to a younger audience. All in all, one of my favourite interactive galleries I’ve been to.
There were also other artists displaying their work at the museum. They worked in a variety of media and style.
I noticed that the local art gallery definitely had an effect on the community. Walking around Henly, there were several little art shops and galleries.
